Landmarc Home Interiors: What is Veneer Design Finish?
- Updated Wednesday Jun 05 2024
A veneer design finish refers to a thin layer of decorative wood or material that is applied to the surface of furniture, walls, or other structures. This layer is often glued onto a less expensive surface, like plywood or particle board, giving the appearance of solid or more expensive material without the cost.
Veneers can be made from wood, plastic, or even stone. Wood veneers are especially popular in the furniture industry because they allow manufacturers to use rare or expensive wood more economically. The veneer is typically sliced very thin, sometimes as thin as 1/40th of an inch, from a large block of wood, and then it's applied to the stronger, more affordable base material.
The use of veneer allows for beautiful and intricate designs and patterns that might not be possible or would be exceedingly expensive if crafted from solid materials. It is used in a variety of applications, from high-end cabinetry and furniture to architectural panels and interior decorations.
