Mbappe: “PSG told me with violence that I was not going to play again this season”

Real Madrid's newest signing Kylian Mbappe talked to the media in a press conference held by the French national team ahead of the upcoming UEFA Euro. Mbappe said he would only take a few questions about his move to Real Madrid so that the focus can shift to the French team.

“Before starting this press conference, I just wanted to say a few words. Everyone has heard the news: it’s official, I’m going to be a player of Real Madrid for at least the next five seasons. It’s an immense pleasure, a dream come true. It’s very exciting. I am very happy, relieved, and extremely proud. This is the club where I have always dreamed of being, so I want to thank you. I am very excited about the idea of going to this great club, the best in the world. I feel very humble at the prospect and would like to thank all the people who have sent me messages and all those who have contributed to this operation,”

Mbappe then tried to explain what happened behind the scenes this season.

“They made me understand, they told me to my face, they spoke to me with violence, they told me. Luis Enrique and Luis Campos saved me. Without them, I wouldn’t have set foot on the field again this past season. That’s the truth, and that’s why I’ve always been so grateful to the coach and the sports director. I hear the criticism. I believe I am the most suitable person to analyze my performances. Just playing was a great source of pride. But it is certain that next year I will not settle for a year like this,”.

After taking some questions about France’s quest to conquer the Euro, Mbappe also talked about the support he received after joining Real Madrid.

“As for the messages I have received, I haven’t been able to see everything, but I have seen Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, my future teammates, and former teammates. It has been a real pleasure. Thank you, and I hope to live up to it,”.

Mbappe will likely share some more thoughts on what happened behind the scenes in 2022 and also this year during his presentation as a Real Madrid player, expected to happen next month.
