Adani's Tarali Dam Pumped Storage Project opposed by 102 Farming Communities
The Adani Tarali Dam Pumped Hydro Storage project has been strongly opposed by over 100 villages in the surrounding area.
The local communities claim that the pumped storage project will impact the water supply in the entire basin.
A minutes of the environmental hearing show that there were a number of objections and flaws pointed out by various interested parties, including misrepresentation made by the promoters about the water levels, seasonal variation, and the amount of water required for the project.
Most of the surrounding farmers depend on irrigation from the Tarali dam itself.
They have accused the Adani company of buying land from desperate farmers at pittance, and want to see a complete end to the project.
The environmental hearing which took place in March this year also shows that the locals were unanimously in favour of scrapping the project completely and declaring the hearing itself as cancelled and illegal, because the impact assessment reports put forward at the hearing were ‘copy-paste’ and not accurate to the situation.
