Which countries have banned Israeli citizens from entering? How do such bans work? What are some of the more prominent bans?

With tensions very high between Israel and Palestine due to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza strip, Maldives is the latest country to adopt retaliatory diplomatic step by banning Israelis citizens from entering its country.

 

Israeli passport holders have also been similarly banned predominantly by Arab nations namely Algeria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen. Some of these countries also do not allow other nationals who have visited Israel ever in their lifetime to visit them.

 

Interestingly, there are also 28 members of the United Nations that do not recognize Israel.

 

Some of the other more noteworthy foreign travel bans include Ethiopians who were completely banned from entering Kuwait till 2018, North Korea passport holders are banned from entering Japan, Russian passport holders have recently been banned from a host of NATO European countries and Taiwan passport holders have been banned by Georgia and Jamaica.
