Which cities in India have both IIM and IIT
As of now the three cities that boast both IIM (Indian Institute of Management) and IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) are Mumbai, Indore and Jammu.
Mumbai entered this list in 2023 when he National Institute of Industrial Engineering was repurposed to become an IIM.
Now Guwahati, Assam may become the 4th city as IIM has been approved.
The First IIT was established in 1951 in Kharagpur. There are currently 23 such institutes across the country. Each operates with autonomy but are owned by the Ministry of Education India and ultimately answer to the President of India.
The IIM institutions were inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru with IIM Calcutta being the first established in 1961. Today there are 21 IIMs operating across the country.
