Top 5 Agricultural Exports from India

Although India has a relatively small export in agricultural goods, this sector employs the majority of the Indian population still and could play a very vital role in improving Indias Balance of Trade and Current Account Deficits.

Here are the top five agricultural exports from India:

1. Rice:

   - India is the world's largest exporter of rice, including basmati and non-basmati varieties. Basmati rice is particularly significant due to its high demand in the Middle East and Europe. In the fiscal year 2024, India exported over $5.2 billion worth of basmati rice.

2. Spices:

   - India is a major exporter of spices like pepper, cardamom, cumin, turmeric, and chili. The country accounts for a significant share of the global spice market. The export value of spices from India reached approximately $4 billion in recent years.

3. Buffalo Meat:

   - India is one of the largest exporters of buffalo meat, primarily to countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa. The export of buffalo meat generates significant revenue, with annual exports valued at around $3 billion.

4. Sugar:

   - India is also a leading exporter of sugar, benefiting from its large sugarcane production. The country exports sugar to various countries, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Sugar exports have been valued at over $2 billion annually.

5. Cotton:

   - Cotton is a major export commodity for India, with significant demand in countries like China, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. India's cotton exports contribute substantially to its agricultural export earnings, with annual values often exceeding $1.5 billion.

These commodities represent India's strength in agricultural production and its ability to meet global demand in these key sectors.
